Radiology & Imaging

The ultrasound scan is a medical non-invasive diagnostic procedure for clinical investigation. An ultrasound machine generates a non-radioactive mechanical sound wave of a higher frequency inaudible to the human ear from a transducer(Probe) made up of piezoelectric crystals. The wave penetrates through various tissues of the human body at different velocities due to the difference in densities of every tissue. As a results, the reflected sound waves(echoes) is received by the probe at different velocities. The difference in velocities is used by a computerized algorithm to generate a corresponding gray scale real time image. A trained sonographer or radiologist interprets the image and reports on the diagnostic findings.

Ultrasound scan do not have any adverse health effects on patients unlike X-Rays which are ionization radiation with well documented adverse effects.
